At a special ceremony held on Thursday, September 21 2006, at Tridel Dorsay’s newest community, Circa was presented with an award recognizing it for its EcoLogo building connection by Markham District Energy. EcoLogo recognizes leadership in environmentally sustainable products, including delivering energy efficient heating and cooling to Canadian buildings. Circa is the first residential building in Canada with heating and cooling supplied by an EcoLogo certified district energy system.
Using highly efficient equipment, cogeneration and clean fuels, hot water and chilled water is produced and sent to Circa through underground pipes and used to heat and cool the building. There are zero emissions coming from Circa itself. This partnership is a natural fit as Tridel is a leader in promoting environmental stewardship among condo purchasers, consistently offers numerous environmental features and has been frequently recognized for its leadership, innovation and commitment.
Leo DelZotto, President of Tridel said, “Tridel will consistently take the risk and push the boundary towards innovation and improvement. Using a new approach to build homes can be better for the environment, better for our customers and better for business. Partnering with Markham District Energy is a natural extension of this philosophy and we are thrilled to be the first residential building connected to this smart energy choice. “
When presenting the award, Bruce Ander, President and CEO of Markham District Energy noted, “This partnership with Tridel and the connection to Circa was strategically very important to Markham District Energy as it has helped continue the strong growth of its environmentally sound energy system.” Also in attendance was Markham Mayor Don Cousens who said, “It is inspiring to work with the visionary leaders at Tridel who are supporting the quality service offered by Markham District Energy. We are proud to welcome the residents of Circa, the first residential tower occupied in Markham Centre.”
